
*Pasadena Playhouse, the official State Theater of California and recipient of the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award celebrates a successful run of Suzan -Lori Parks’ “Topdog/Underdog” starring Brandon Gill and Brandon Michael Hall. The show closed its month-long run at the Playhouse March 23, 2025.
Entangled ambition and raw emotion reeked from the actors who delivered commanding performances as Booth (Brandon Gill) and Lincoln (Brandon Michael Hall).
This riveting tale of two brothers was directed by the NAACP Theater Award winner Gregg T. Daniel. It’s the classic battle of good versus evil with an urban twist. When troubled youth are left to fend for themselves, they take their troubles out on each other and the world.
Playwright Suzan-Lori Parks has certainly mastered the art of conflict and dialogue, thus earning the distinction of being the first African American woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize in Drama. Ms. Parks has also won the MacArthur Genius Grant, Gish Prize among many other honors. Additionally, she was a writing student of the late great James Baldwin.
The New York Times calls Topdog/Underdog “The Greatest American Play of the Past 25 Years.”


Brandon Micheal Hall previously appeared on Broadway in The Roundabout Theatre’s Trouble In Mind. Additionally, television audiences remember his starring roles in The Mayor and God Friended Me (ABC).
Julliard graduate Brandon Gill appeared on Broadway in A Christmas Carol and in NY Public Theater’s Hamlet, among other roles on stage and in TV and film.
Pasadena Playhouse continues to be a breeding ground and launching pad for artistic expression and the performing arts.
It is the official State Theater of California and recipient of the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
The Playhouse has staged thousands of original productions since its founding in 1917, including premieres of works by Tennessee Williams, Eugene O’Neill, Suzan-Lori Parks and hundreds more.
