*Decades after starting out as childhood friends in Boston, New Edition has earned a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination, a milestone many fans have long anticipated. The group has spent nearly 50 years shaping R&B music and leaving a lasting influence on audiences around the world.
Bobby Brown described the recognition as a dream come true. “It feels incredible … we’re really happy to be a part of this,” he told the Boston Globe, adding that the nomination reflects years of hard work and hope finally being realized.
“Just knowing that our prayers are being answered and everything is going in the direction that we had hoped for, and we wished upon, and we worked hard for … it’s a great thing … we’re really happy to be a part of this,” he added.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recently unveiled its nominees for induction in 2026, presenting one of its largest ballots in recent years. A total of 17 nominees, representing 18 artists, are in contention for the upcoming class. The final selections will be announced in April ahead of a fall induction ceremony.
This year’s group reflects a wide generational range, shaped by the Hall’s rule that artists become eligible 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording. Ten performers appear on the ballot for the first time, while seven return after prior nominations.
According to Billboard, artists earning their first nod include P!NK, Lauryn Hill, Jeff Buckley, Wu-Tang Clan, Shakira, Melissa Etheridge, New Edition, Luther Vandross, Phil Collins and INXS. Collins is already a Hall inductee as part of Genesis and would join the select group of multi-time inductees if chosen for his solo work. Returning nominees include Mariah Carey, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, The Black Crowes, Billy Idol and Sade. Several of these acts are now on their third appearance on the ballot.
“This diverse list of talented nominees recognizes the ever-evolving faces and sounds of Rock & Roll and its continued impact on youth culture”, said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, in a press release, per PEOPLE.
“Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is music’s highest honor and we look forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 this Fall,” he added.
Meanwhile, New Edition is gearing up for the New Edition Way tour, beginning March 13, featuring Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton as special guests.
