*Netflix unveiled the official trailer for Robert De Niro’s first TV series, “Zero Day,” coming to Netflix on February 20.
Created by Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, the limited series follows a former U.S. president (De Niro) who investigates a massive cyberattack while grappling with personal struggles. Per the synopsis: “As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.”
“Zero Day is about the aftermath of a devastating cyber attack that kills thousands of people and that puts a nation already on edge right up to the precipice,” co-creator and co-showrunner Eric Newman explained in a behind-the-scenes sneak peek, per Tudum.
De Niro also serves as a producer on the project that includes the star-studded cast including Angela Bassett, Jesse Plemons, Dan Stevens, Lizzy Caplan, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann, and Clark Gregg. Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum about the show, writer and executive producer Narcos’ Eric Newman said: “Zero Day is about the aftermath of a devastating cyberattack that kills thousands of people and threatens to push a nation already on the precipice over the edge.”
Oppenheim said, “The show also looks at the cost of power for those who are asked to take on these enormous challenges — what it means for them personally, and what it means for their families.”

De Niro’s character is described as “a hugely popular but complicated former US president who’s pulled out of retirement to head the Zero Day Commission, an unprecedented group of experts tasked with investigating a devastating global cyberattack.” Bassett portrays President Evelyn Mitchell, “a brilliant and perceptive political tactician who hires Mullen to take on an unprecedented role in American history.”
Per Netflix, the show asks the question: “Is the true threat a foreign power, or from within?”
Speaking about De Niro as a producer on the series, Newman said, “[De Niro] very much became our partner in this process — very hands-on, very involved, read everything at every stage, and it’s been an incredible honor and privilege. You can count on one hand the actors and actresses in history who bring this level of gravitas, pedigree, and talent to their work.”
