*Mel B says the age gap between her and husband Rory McPhee is wider than people might assume, and she insists it doesn’t bother her. The Spice Girls alum, 51, spoke with Yahoo’s “Unapologetically” series about her marriage and her outlook on aging.
When asked about having a “slight age gap” with McPhee, who is in his 30s, Mel B quickly corrected the assumption. “A big age gap,” she replied.
She brushed off any concern about the gap, framing it as a simple matter of perspective. “I believe age is just a number. As long as you feel happy with who you are. I’m 51 and he’s in his 30s, but I don’t even know what 51 is meant to feel like. I just feel like me,” she told Yahoo.
The couple will celebrate their first wedding anniversary in July. Mel B, born Melanie Brown, is currently balancing married life with her return as a judge on “America’s Got Talent.” She’s also raising three children and keeping a full house of pets and farm animals at her Yorkshire property.

“The thing is, I’m really appreciative of everything,” Brown noted. “I really am, because I’ve suffered.”
Losing her father, she has said, gave her the push to walk away from a relationship she has called abusive. It also gave her room to start over on her own terms.
Her grounding habits go back decades. She discovered Reiki and meditation at 19, just as she began touring with the Spice Girls. Both practices have stayed part of her routine ever since. She also makes time most days to hike across her farm, where she checks on her goats, ducks, and chickens.
Brown said one of the biggest shifts in recent years has been letting go of the need to always be right. “My husband always says to me, ‘Instead of being right, just be kind.’ Sometimes I’m like: ‘I want to prove my point because they are wrong and I know that I’m right.’ He’ll say, ‘Stop trying to be right. You know you’re right. Just be kind.'”
