*An incident involving a rehearsal over lines for a movie is at the center of a situation involving Matthew Lawrence and Gabrielle Union.
Detailing what happened with the situation on the “Magical Rewind Podcast,” Lawrence admitted his negative interaction with Union was “the only time “he got in trouble on a film or television set. At the time, the pair were working on the set of their 1999 TV movie “H-E Double Hockey Sticks.” Lawrence starred in the film as a hockey player who becomes the target of a young devil, played by “Magical Rewind” podcast” co-host Will Friedle, Variety noted.
According to the “Mr. Doubtfire” actor, the incident started after he refused Union’s offer to rehearse their lines together on the set.
“There was this one moment where — and, again, I’m oblivious, I had no idea — and [Gabrielle] wanted to rehearse. And I was like, ‘No, I’m good,’” the entertainer remembered (via Entertainment Weekly). “And she got angry and went and reported me to the director and the studio. The only time in my entire career, because usually I’m, like, the advocate, and I’m fighting for kids and, like, you know, women’s rights. This is the only time in my life when I was called into the office for something I did on set. And I had no clue.”
As the podcast continued, Lawrence went further into his refusal of Union’s request to rehearse their lines, stating he wanted the scene to feel as fresh as possible when the time came to shoot it. According to Variety, the “Boy Meets World” alum no longer thinks that way as an actor.

“At that point, in my mind — now I can do whatever, and nothing’s gonna faze me — [but] at that point in my mind, I really loved memorizing the lines, knowing all the beats,” Lawrence said, “but hated running it, cause it felt like it took all the freshness out of it.”
Airing on ABC in October 1999, “H-E Double Hockey Sticks” was part of “The Wonderful World of Disney” series. That same year, Union starred in a pair of popular teen romantic comedies, “10 Things I Hate About You” with Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and “She’s All That” alongside Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook and Paul Walker.
Reflecting on his time with Union, Lawrence admitted that that everybody on the set of “H-E Double Hockey Sticks” knew Union would go on to be a star. Friedle’s “Magical Rewind” fellow host Sabrina Bryan summed up the “Bring It On” star’s appeal while complimenting on Union’s beauty and what she labeled as an “aura.”
“She’s so beautiful and she just has this, like, aura of just confidence,” she said.
