*Marlon Wayans recently recalled the moment an unexpected intruder appeared in the family’s private group chat while discussing his appearance on his brother Damon Wayans’ CBS sitcom, “Poppa’s House.”
“There’s like four of them because there’s always one person that’s like, ‘Please just get me the hell out of here,’” Marlon joked in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. He recalled how Damon’s daughter, Kyla Wayans, was once stuck in one of their group chats and became frustrated as the family kept messaging to annoy her.
Damon admitted that the flood of messages can be overwhelming, especially with family members in different time zones.
“Well, the thing is, we got people on the East Coast and people on the West Coast, so it’s different time zones,” he explained. “And then chiming in on something that we thought had come to closure, and then they get the text, and now they want to join in on the comedy, and it’s just like, ‘Yo.’ I got like four of them muted, with like 192 messages.”
Marlon also shared how an unknown person accidentally joined their family chat due to Keenen Ivory Wayans changing his phone number. “Some new person got Keenen’s number,” he said. “On our family group chat, and everybody’s like, ‘Who are you? Phil, who’s this guy?’”

Marlon recently appeared on “Poppa’s House,” playing Melvin, the younger brother of Damon Sr.’s character.
“I love begging Damon for work,” he said of the role. “No, I called him. I wanted to do his show. My brother is on TV. I like to support my brother.”
The show is a true family affair, with Damon’s son, Damon Wayans Jr., in the cast and their sister, Kim Wayans, directing the episode that aired on March 24. According to Damon Sr., Kim was the only person who could keep Marlon focused.
“We hired Kim to direct this only because she’s the only director that can check Marlon and get him to just, to focus. His lack of focus is part of his brain,” Damon told PEOPLE. “But we are making a show, and it’s only 22 minutes long, so we need to bring in the big guns. Because Kim with a whistle go, ‘Marlon,’ and he go, ‘All right.’”
“Poppa’s House” airs Mondays at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
