*Every holiday season, Mariah Carey’s 1994 hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” becomes the inescapable soundtrack to festive gatherings. More than three decades after its release, the song continues to earn the singer between $2.5 million and $3 million in annual royalties, according to estimates from Forbes and The Economist, making it one of the most lucrative holiday tracks ever.
Beyond streaming and sales, the track had already generated more than $60 million in royalties by 2017. The Christmas anthem achieved a historic milestone in 2021, receiving the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Diamond Award for reaching 10 million sales and streaming units in the U.S.—the first holiday song to do so. Carey shared a photo of herself with the award on social media, captioning it, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend ????❤️.”
Reflecting on the honor, she said, “The continued love for my song never ceases to amaze me and fill my heart with a multitude of emotions. It blows my mind that ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ has endured different eras of the music industry. The RIAA DIAMOND award?! Wowww! I’m so fortunate to have the greatest fans on Earth, my Lambily, who continue to support my legacy. I love you.”
Billboard confirmed the track’s ongoing dominance in December 2022 when it simultaneously topped both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. It also remains the highest-charting holiday single by a solo artist in Hot 100 history and re-enters charts in dozens of countries each December.
Carey keeps the festive spirit alive with fresh content as well. In 2023, she unveiled a new music video for the song, packed with previously unseen footage from her “Merry Christmas One And All!” tour, featuring cameos by her twins, Moroccan and Monroe. She simultaneously released a mini-documentary on YouTube, which offers fans an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the meticulous preparations and magical moments that define the tour.
The songstress continues to spread holiday cheer with her 2025 residency, “Mariah Carey’s Christmas Time,” at Dolby Live in Las Vegas, running from November 28 to December 13.
