*Marcy Croft, an attorney affiliated with Roc Nation’s criminal justice reform efforts, has filed a $25 million defamation lawsuit against prominent Houston attorney Tony Buzbee.
According to All Hip Hop, she alleges that Buzbee orchestrated an online campaign falsely labeling her as involved in criminal activity. The suit stems from ongoing disputes linked to a dismissed civil case in New York, where a woman accused Jay-Z of abuse. In her complaint, Croft asserts that Buzbee, along with his law firm and a co-defendant, carried out a coordinated effort to publicly charge her with serious offenses, such as unlawful client recruitment, bribery, witness intimidation, and obstructing justice. She describes these accusations as baseless and made with malicious intent.
According to the filing, the dispute began in December 2024 when former Buzbee client Jose Maldonado contacted Croft requesting a complimentary analysis of concerns about the Buzbee Law Firm’s client fund management. Croft examined minimal documentation, chose not to advance any claims, and ceased communication. Maldonado subsequently partnered with Buzbee in what Croft characterizes as an orchestrated trap.

Croft alleges that Buzbee publicly attacked her on Instagram and Facebook, claiming Croft operated an unlawful operation employing “agents” for lawsuit solicitation while offering former clients as much as $10,000 to initiate legal action against him. According to the complaint, these false claims were also distributed in correspondence sent to previous clients of the Buzbee Law Firm.
Croft contends the smear campaign’s timing was designed to divert attention from mounting questions about Buzbee’s handling of client funds and that he leveraged his large social media following to maximize the reputational damage.
She is seeking at least $25 million in compensatory damages plus punitive damages, stating that Buzbee’s antics caused reputational harm, emotional distress, and diminished her professional credibility.
