*Brooklyn’s A-Diamond Entertainment is proud to announce that it will bring its acclaimed production of “Man of the House” – the #1 Urban Stage Play – to the legendary Billie Holiday Theatre, one of the nation’s preeminent arts and culture organizations located in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, for three performances on October 10th at 7:30 PM & October 11th at 2PM and 7PM.
Written, directed, and produced by award-winning playwright A’ndre Davis, this bold work takes an introspective look at the issue of domestic violence through the lens of a male abuse victim – a perspective that is often stigmatized and overlooked.
First premiering to sold-out audiences at the Luna Stage Theatre in West Orange, NJ in August 2014, Man of the House has since toured the Tri-State area and beyond, earning praise for its fresh storytelling, dynamic performances, and its ability to educate while entertaining.

Featuring a talented cast to include: celebrated R&B artist and actress Monifah in the role of Kesi; comedian, actor and host C. King (Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘N Out) in the role of Isaac; actor Trinity Whiteside (“Tyler Perry’s Sistas” and “Zatima”) in the role of Walt, and actor Cortez Smith (“The Chi”) in the role of Lawrence. Man of the House follows James (played by A’ndre Davis) and his struggle to save his relationship and, ultimately, his journey to reclaim control of his life. A compelling mix of heart, humor and hard truths, the production examines the complexities of relationships, the effects of unresolved generational trauma, and the hidden realities of male survivors of domestic violence. It also seeks to speak to audiences across generations – sparking conversation and challenging perceptions around gender, power, and abuse.
“Bringing Man of the House to The Billie Holiday Theatre is a full-circle moment for me as both an artist and a storyteller,” says Davis. “The Billie has long been a home for truth-telling and for art that challenges us to see the world differently. With this play, I wanted to shine a light on a side of domestic violence we rarely talk about — the experiences of male survivors — while still giving audiences the heart, humor, and humanity that make stories resonate. Brooklyn is a community that knows resilience, and I can’t think of a more powerful stage to share this journey of breaking cycles, sparking conversation, and, ultimately, finding hope.”
With a proven track record of sold-out performances, Man of the House at The Billie Holiday Theatre promises to be both an unforgettable night of theater and a powerful catalyst for awareness and change.

About The Billie Holiday Theatre
The AUDELCO, Obie, and National Medal for the Arts award-winning Billie Holiday Theatre is artistic anchor to the largest African American community in the nation: Central Brooklyn and one of the last remaining theaters forged in the aesthetic and sociocultural kiln of America’s Civil Rights/Black Arts Movements. Founded in May 1972, The Billie Holiday Theatre is a beacon for world class art rooted in racial justice in the heart of Bed-Stuy: producing, presenting, and commissioning new and classic works and festivals in theater, dance, music, visual arts, and film; providing artistic and institutional residencies; and serving ages 3 to 103 with dynamic and accessible educational programming. For bold and daring artists and audiences from around the corner and around the world who look to The Billie as a rigorous artistic space that tackles racial injustices, presents new and unapologetic voices, and imagines a world where all people can flourish…welcome home.
