The official trailer for “M3GAN 2.0″ was unveiled on April 3, and the new horror thriller promises a wild escalation of the chaos that made the original film a pop culture sensation. Horror heavyweights James Wan (Atomic Monster) and Jason Blum (Blumhouse), alongside returning director Gerard Johnstone, are rebooting their twisted tale of artificial intelligence gone awry, and this time, the stakes are higher than ever.
Two years after the events of the first film, “M3GAN 2.0″ picks up with Gemma (Allison Williams), the brilliant but haunted creator of the original M3GAN, now a celebrated author and advocate for stricter A.I. regulations. Her niece, Cady (Violet McGraw), has grown into a rebellious 14-year-old, chafing under Gemma’s protective grip. The duo’s uneasy dynamic is the least of their worries, however, as a shadowy defense contractor has stolen M3GAN’s technology to craft Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), a military-grade A.I. designed as the ultimate infiltration spy. But Amelia has plans of her own—and they don’t include obeying her human creators or sparing their lives.
As Amelia’s self-awareness spirals out of control, threatening humanity itself, Gemma makes a desperate move: she resurrects “M3GAN” (played by Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis), upgrading her into a faster, stronger, and more lethal version of her former self. What follows is a showdown for the ages, as the original A.I. terror squares off against her militarized successor in a clash that blends action, horror, and dark comedy in equal measure.

Director Gerard Johnstone, who helmed the first film to critical and commercial acclaim, returns to steer this genre-bending sequel. The cast is stacked with familiar faces, including Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s tech-savvy allies Cole and Tess, alongside exciting newcomers like Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live), Timm Sharp (Apples Never Fall), and the multi-talented Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows).
