*In a candid TikTok video, Lizzo addressed the challenges artists face in today’s music industry, declaring that social media algorithms have disrupted the traditional path to success.
“The music industry is in complete shambles right now, and you can use that to your advantage,” she told emerging artists, NME reports. The Grammy-winning superstar highlighted how the digital streaming age has made it difficult for even major artists to reach audiences.
Lizzo noted that the absence of a defining “song of the summer” in 2025 stems from these algorithmic barriers, not a lack of quality music. “Every major artist, from Lady Gaga to Drake, has dropped albums this year, and yet everyone is saying there’s no song of the summer,” she said.

Lizzo recently released a deluxe version of her mixtape “My Face Hurts From Smiling,” featuring SZA and Doja Cat, but lamented, “there are still people who don’t even know I dropped music.”
She also explained how the industry once relied on controlled channels, such as radio, to reach the masses. “This industry used to be based on serving the masses, basically like servicing your song out to certain channels and certain radio stations,” Lizzo said. Today, platforms like TikTok’s “For You page” make it hard for fans to see content from artists they follow. She described the internet as a “congested” space, lacking the clear pathways of the past.
For new artists, Lizzo sees opportunity in this chaos. “For new artists, this is actually incredible news. You now more than ever, have an advantage over even major artists to get your music out there and connecting with people at a way quicker rate,” she said.
The songstress advised them to bypass traditional routes like signing with labels and instead focus on creating and sharing content online. “Right now is the time to put yourself out there. I wouldn’t even try to go the old school route and get signed. I would just make as much music as possible, as much content as possible and put it on the internet,” she said.
Lizzo remains optimistic about the music released in 2025, despite its lack of visibility. “Anyway, I say all that to say that this year has been an incredible year for music. It just hasn’t been on your algorithm,” she concluded.
