*On June 19, 2026 (Juneteenth), the Compton Art & History Museum hosted a sold-out Paint & Sip fundraiser in Compton, California, bringing together community members for an evening of art, music, food, and celebration.
The event was held at the studio and gallery of renowned artist Mr. Wash, who opened his space to support the fundraiser and the museum’s ongoing mission to preserve and promote Compton’s rich cultural history.
While rapper Kendrick Lamar was not in attendance, the Compton native supported the event through a financial contribution that helped make the fundraiser possible. His support added to an evening focused on community empowerment, artistic expression, and cultural pride.
Guests enjoyed painting sessions, music, dancing, food, wine, and fellowship throughout the evening, creating a festive Juneteenth atmosphere while raising funds for the Compton Art & History Museum.

Mr. Wash is known not only for his acclaimed artwork but also for his remarkable personal story. After serving more than 20 years in prison for a wrongful conviction, he received clemency from President Barack Obama and has since become an influential artist and community advocate.
The fundraiser highlighted the importance of supporting local arts organizations that preserve history, inspire creativity, and provide opportunities for future generations.
The event was documented by award-winning filmmaker Keith O’Derek of Upfront Productions, who produced, filmed, and edited the accompanying video.
