
*Kelis has revealed how her life has transformed since relocating to Kenya, where she now lives on a farm with her three children.
As Vibe reports, the singer shared a series of Instagram videos documenting her experience settling into East Africa, discussing both the joys and challenges that have come with the move. Her posts reveal deep appreciation for her surroundings, from the scenery to the sense of progress she sees across the country.
“You see it’s progressing,” and added that services like Amazon, Uber, and Uber Eats help make day-to-day life comfortable. “There’s just a lot of stuff happening all the time so it just makes it livable.”

Kelis also spoke warmly about the people she has met since moving, emphasizing the kindness that defines her community. “The people here are really friendly, they’re just good people,” she shared, reflecting on how her family, 16-year-old son Knight—whom she shares with rapper Nas—and her late husband Mike Mora’s children, Shepherd, 9, and Galilee, 5, were welcomed. Although she’s still arranging health insurance, Kelis praised Kenya’s healthcare system and the generosity she has experienced.
Adapting to rural life has brought its share of difficulties. She mentioned that maintaining certain amenities can be expensive and that infrastructure challenges, such as uneven roads, flooding, and waste disposal, can take time to navigate. “If you want to live here like an American, it’s definitely going to cost you triple the price,” Kelis explained.
Despite the learning curve, Kelis’s affection for her new home is unmistakable. Calling Kenya “one of the best countries on the continent,”
