*Former Vice President Kamala Harris will be honored with the Chairman’s Award at the 56th NAACP Image Awards on Saturday.
This prestigious award recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence in public service and use their influence to inspire meaningful change.
“Vice President Harris embodies the power, grace, and unyielding courage that Black women have long brought to the heart of the United States,” said Derrick Johnson, NAACP president and CEO, per The Associated Press.
“With bold determination, Vice President Harris fights for justice, amplifies the voices of the marginalized, and stands as a beacon of hope. She embodies the resilience and brilliance of Black women, uplifting their legacy as the driving force behind change in this country. VP Harris reminds us all that when Black women lead, the entire nation rises,” Johnson added.
Past recipients of the Chairman’s Award include Amanda Gorman, Samuel L. Jackson, John Lewis, Ruby Dee, Danny Glover, Rev. James Lawson, Tyler Perry, former Senator Barack Obama, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson, and Representative Maxine Waters.

Harris, who previously served as California’s attorney general and a U.S. senator, will be recognized alongside comedian Dave Chappelle, who is set to receive the President’s Award.
Additionally, the 2025 NAACP Image Awards will honor the iconic Wayans family with an induction into the Hall of Fame.
“For decades, the Wayans family has been at the forefront of comedy, breaking barriers and opening doors for waves of entertainers,” Johnson said in a press release.
“Their trailblazing work in television, film, and stand-up has transcended pop culture and cemented their legacy in the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame. Recognizing their achievements with this induction is a celebration of a multi-generational legacy that continues to advance and uplift communities,” he continued.
The Wayans family, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Damon Wayans, Sr., Marlon, Shawn, Kim, and Damon Wayans Jr., is one of Hollywood’s most influential comedic dynasties, known for their groundbreaking work in television, film, and stand-up comedy. They have left a lasting mark on the entertainment industry with their unique blend of humor, satire, and cultural commentary.
“The Wayans family has set a standard of excellence, and their influence resonates far beyond the stage and screen,” Johnson added.
The 2025 NAACP Image Awards ceremony will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium at 8 p.m. ET/PT, airing live on BET and CBS.
