*Vice President Kamala Harris has introduced a set of policies aimed at appealing to Black men.
According to The Huffington Post, Harris’ “opportunity agenda” includes initiatives like offering loans to Black entrepreneurs, investing in mentorship programs, protecting cryptocurrency assets, and legalizing recreational marijuana to help Black men participate in that industry. Harris also focuses on addressing health disparities like diabetes and prostate cancer, which disproportionately affect Black men. The Democratic nominee also promises increased financial support for Black farmers and ranchers.
The publication’s deputy editor Phillip Lewis noted on X (formally Twitter) that Harris’ policies “draw from stops on her nationwide economic opportunity tour, during which she listened to Black men during visits to predominantly Black cities like Atlanta, Charlotte and Detroit,” he wrote.
In response, one user commented, “She cares so much about Black men she’s allowed Illegals to flood Black communities for the past four years and just now gives tax funded handouts for Black men 3 weeks before the election lol are y’all falling for this?”
The vice president’s new policy rollout follows former President Obama’s criticism of Black men who support Trump. However, many Black men remain unimpressed by Harris’ efforts, viewing the proposals as insufficient or missing the mark, and are not swayed by her agenda.
Kamala Harris unveiled new policy proposals aimed at Black men which includes:
-providing a million loans to Black entrepreneurs
-creating more Black male mentor programs
-a health initiative for diseases like prostate cancer
-protecting crypto assets https://t.co/pAx3W9IoiB— philip lewis (@Phil_Lewis_) October 14, 2024
On X, Prager U personality Xaviaer DuRousseau wrote: “Black men are sick of being reduced to the expectation of thinking with our skin color. Kamala Harris has done NOTHING to earn our support, and Barack Obama cannot convince us otherwise.
Another person added, “Black American Men like myself do not reject Kamala because she doesn’t have Policy specifically for Black MEN. We don’t do the #GenderDivide. We reject her because she doesn’t have policy specifically for #BlackAmericans (DOAS). Like lineage based #REPARATIONS”
A third commented, “Policies aimed at the whole community ignored so they get a special hat tip, as if new home buyers help, child tax credits, etc., wouldn’t benefit them, too. I’m sure this won’t satisfy that crowd, because the real issue is with a woman candidate.”

Harris’ policy announcement coincides with a campaign tour partially aimed at engaging Black men. On Tuesday, she is set to join a radio town hall in Detroit, hosted by Charlamagne Tha God from The Breakfast Club, according to The Huff Post.
“Black men care about economics. A lot of African American men specifically care about the cost of inflation, health care, housing, all of those things,” said Quentin Fulks, the Harris-Walz campaign’s deputy principal manager. “When it comes down to it, another thing that’s always underlying data is: How do you create generational wealth? How do you begin to build? A number of these policies attempt to answer that.”
According to Harris’ plan, she vows to “work with Congress to encourage businesses to limit the use of criminal arrest histories and credit scores when vetting potential employees,” The Huffington Post writes.
”Black men feel like [politicians] show up in the fourth quarter for them, or that there’s an underlying expectation of a vote and nobody does anything to earn it,” Fulks said. “But even beyond that, there are a lot of broken promises. This is very important to the vice president and this campaign feels that everything that you see here is achievable.”
Harris appears to be focused on targeting a demographic that former President Donald Trump has been actively courting ahead of the presidential race. According to The Hill, recent polling shows an increase in support for Trump among Black men.
