*Kamala Harris is back in the spotlight, this time speaking with former MSNBC host Joy Reid for “The Joy Reid Show” on YouTube, focusing on her new book, “107 Days,” which chronicles her whirlwind 2024 presidential campaign.
“It was a historic race,” Harris told Reid, Page Six reports, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of her run as the sitting vice president who stepped into the race with just over three months until the election.
“A president of the United States, running for reelection, three and a half months from the election, decides not to run. The sitting vice president takes up the race against a former president of the United States, with 107 days to go. That’s what the book is about. It’s about what that experience was,” Harris added.
Harris’s memoir provides lively accounts of her campaign journey while steering clear of in-depth commentary on her vice presidency or the Biden administration.
“This book is not about Joe Biden. It’s actually not about my vice presidency — where and when I talk about it, it’s to contextualize 107 days,” Harris explained to Reid.
The political host noted a reserved tone in Harris’s responses about Biden, suggesting loyalty played a role. “She was reticent to really go there,” Reid told Page Six, observing, “There was a little bit of sadness in her that I’m not used to seeing. She usually has a deeply joyful spirit… She’s carrying a lot of sadness and alarm about what’s happening in the country.”
During the conversation, Reid mentioned Trump’s 2024 comments at a National Association of Black Journalists convention, where he claimed Harris “happened to turn black” for political gain. Harris, whose father is Black Jamaican and mother was Indian, responded: “I was born black, and I will die black.”
Harris described “107 Days” as a “political thriller that is nonfiction,” capturing the intensity of her campaign against a former president. Watch her conversation with Reid above.
