*Jermaine Dupri recently discussed his past relationship with Janet Jackson on Hot 97 with Nessa, pushing back against the idea that he “fumbled” the R&B icon after their 2009 breakup.
“I don’t know what a fumble is, though,” he said, questioning why the narrative doesn’t consider that Jackson might have fumbled him. “I’m not something that you just let roll down the street,” he added, per Complex. “I look at it like it’s a relationship, and we were together for eight years.”
In a 2022 appearance in Jackson’s documentary “Janet Jackson,” Dupri opened up about their bond and its challenges, admitting to infidelity. “Girls wanted to talk to me more because I was dating her, which was really weird,” he said, reflecting on his behavior. “And I was a man.” Jackson had considered starting a family with him but reconsidered after learning of his alleged cheating, which he described as “reckless.”
Dupri’s perspective shifted from last year when he responded to an X user’s comment about fumbling Jackson. After a fan wrote, “Jermaine we not answering questions from anyone that fumbled Janet Jackson,” he replied, “Whew whew you just said something !!” The exchange followed after Dupri highlighted how fans still tie him to his infamous ex.
In a separate interview on “Million Dollaz Worth of Game,” Dupri clarified his intentions with Jackson weren’t about professional gain. “It wasn’t about no music shit,” he explained. “I was just on some like hang out. I never wanted her to think that’s what my agenda was.”
He noted their arguments stemmed from his refusal to produce her music, as he wanted to avoid perceptions of exploiting her fame.
