*Jeannie Mai has spoken candidly about the emotional impact of her divorce from Jeezy, likening the experience to “experiencing death alive.”
The former couple married in March 2021 and divorced after two years of marriage. They finalized their split following a high-profile custody battle for their four-year-old daughter, Monaco.
On the January 29 episode of the podcast Question Everything, Mai detailed the pain of navigating divorce while parenting. She expressed relief that Monaco would not remember the conflict between her parents. “That’s not something I want her to ever have to think about. My job is to define peace for her. So, she’s going to get that,” she said, Complex reports.

Mai reflected further on the emotional disorientation of divorce, describing it as a space that closes in unexpectedly. “There’s no way to understand that feeling of space shared with somebody and all of a sudden it closing in, to where you even wonder if you can trust yourself in your thoughts because one day you had a plan and you had these thoughts and then suddenly it becomes something else,” she explained.
In a November 20 vlog, Mai looked back on the past two years, highlighting both struggles and revelations. She spoke about confronting hidden pain, saying, “It cracked me open and showed me everything that I’ve been trying to mask. I went through things that I wouldn’t wish on anybody.” She described a process that stripped her down until she faced herself: “the only person left to meet was me.”
Mai credited her daughter for helping her stay grounded through the upheaval. “Seeing her run toward me, it pulled me right back into who I have been becoming,” she said. She added that what once felt like two devastating years “became the years that saved me.”
Reflecting on her journey, Mai acknowledged past mistakes in how she approached love and rebuilding. “For years, I mistook chaos for love,” she said. She now feels a sense of completeness she hadn’t before: “This is the first time I’ve truly felt whole.”
