*A candidate seeking Florida’s governorship has triggered outrage with explosive language about Don Lemon’s legal troubles.
As Raw Story reports, James Fishback declared on social media that the journalist escaped public execution following his indictment over a religious facility incident in Minnesota.
“Don Lemon is lucky he’s not getting hanged in the public square for ransacking a church,” Fishback posted to X. His statement emerged after federal authorities brought charges against Lemon and eight additional defendants stemming from a January gathering at Cities Church in St. Paul.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi signed an indictment describing events at the church as “a takeover-style attack,” though critics contest this portrayal. Court documents outline two criminal conspiracy allegations: one targeting religious freedom rights at worship locations, another involving efforts to injure, intimidate, and interfere with religious freedom exercise.
Lemon currently operates as an independent media professional following his CNN departure. On January 18, he broadcast live from outside Cities Church during activist demonstrations. Protestors opposed federal officers who had been seizing immigrants from public areas and were connected to two fatal incidents in Minneapolis. According to social media posts, Church leader Davis Easterwood is an ICE official in the state.
Court filings allege Lemon attempted to conceal demonstration plans by instructing certain participants to keep targets confidential and temporarily moved away to avoid his recording equipment capturing sensitive discussions. Prosecutors assert Lemon positioned himself close to the pastor “in an attempt to oppress and intimidate him, and physically obstructed his freedom of movement while LEMON peppered him with questions to promote the operation’s message.” The indictment additionally charges Lemon with lightly admonishing the pastor.
Legal documents state that the protest disrupted scheduled religious activities. “As a result of defendants’ conduct, the pastor and congregation were forced to terminate the Church’s worship service, congregants fled the Church building out of fear for their safety, other congregants took steps to implement an emergency plan, and young children were left to wonder, as one child put it, if their parents were going to die,” the indictment said.
