*Ja Rule recently visited “The Sherri Shepherd Show” to share a milestone moment: he’s about to become a grandfather.
As PEOPLE reports, his daughter, Brittney Atkins, 30, and her husband, Tevin Aitken, are expecting their first child. “I’m about to be a grandfather,” the 49-year-old rapper and actor said, jokingly adding, “That don’t even sound right.”
The reveal of Brittney’s pregnancy was a carefully planned surprise. “It was very cute the way she did it. She put the sonogram in a box and it was a card that said, ‘You’re now grandma and grandfather,’ and the sonogram was in the thing,” Ja Rule explained. He described how Brittney presented the sonogram as a gift, catching him and his wife off guard.
Reflecting on the surprise, Ja Rule shared more details about the emotional scene. “And she said, ‘I got a gift for you guys.’ And we thought it was a real gift,” he said. “So, we go into the room … and we open it up and she got the camera on.” He noted, “You can see my expression, see me in wifey’s expression,” emphasizing the joy of the unexpected announcement captured on camera.

Ja Rule has chosen a special name for his new role. “I think I’m going to steal my name from the Notorious B.I.G. Yeah. I love it when they call me Big Poppa,” he said. Host Sherri Shepherd gave him a custom cardigan emblazoned with “Big Poppa.”
“I love it,” the hip-hop star said. “Big Poppa is in the building.”
