*Aleshea Harris makes her feature directorial debut with “Is God Is,” a revenge-driven suspense thriller heading to theaters this May. Harris also wrote the screenplay, adapting it from her own award-winning play of the same name.
The film follows two sisters, bound by a horrific childhood trauma, who set out to settle a score with the father who scarred them in a fire when they were babies. Starring Kara Young and Mallori Johnson in the lead roles, the ensemble cast also includes Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, and Josiah Cross, with Vivica A. Fox and Sterling K. Brown rounding out the lineup.

Behind the camera, the project carries significant producing power. Tessa Thompson and Kishori Rajan serve as producers alongside Riva Marker, Janicza Bravo, and Harris. Executive producers include Stacy O’Neil, Nicole King, and Kenneth Yu.
“Is God Is” arrives as one of the more anticipated theatrical releases of the spring season. The film marks a significant milestone for Harris, who transitions from celebrated playwright to filmmaker with a story she has shepherded from stage to screen.
“Is God Is” opens in theaters May 15. Watch the trailer above.
