*Inglewood, CA — Civil rights activist Najee Ali, Director of Project Islamic Hope, a Southern California civil rights organization, is calling on California Attorney General Rob Bonta to launch an independent hate crime investigation after a makeshift explosive device with the racial slur “n****r” written on both sides was discovered at Bennett/Kew Academy Elementary School in Inglewood, CA.
On the morning of September 10th, Tammy Mosley, an African American resource specialist at the school, went to her vehicle in the staff parking lot around 8:30 a.m. to retrieve supplies. She discovered the device placed behind her car.
Unaware of what it was, but seeing the racial slur written on both sides, Mosley brought it into her office.

Moseley later handed the device to her assistant, Carla Hightower, who brought it to Principal Sarah Appleton.
“Shockingly, instead of contacting law enforcement or initiating a school lockdown to protect students and staff, Appleton placed the device in her office and stated she ‘didn’t have time to deal with it,’” according to Najee Ali.
“This disturbing incident is more than just negligence—it is a direct threat of racial terrorism against an African American educator and the entire school community,” said Ali. “The response by the school’s leadership endangered the lives of children and staff. We demand justice and accountability.”
Demands:
– An independent hate crime investigation by Attorney General Rob Bonta into the racist pipe bomb incident.
– The immediate removal of Principal Sarah Appleton for gross negligence and failure to protect students and staff.

“This was not only an act of hate, but a dangerous crime. Allowing such a device to remain inside a school office without alerting authorities is unacceptable and inexcusable. The community deserves answers, protection, and swift action, Tammy Mosley has also filed a hate crime report with the Los Angeles County 211 Hate Crime hotline,” Ali stated.
“I’m shocked and horrified that a racist makeshift bomb was discovered behind my car—and even more disturbed that it wasn’t taken seriously by the school principal. This was not only an attack on me, but a threat to the safety of every child and staff member on campus. We need a full state investigation by Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office to ensure this never happens again.” — Tammy Mosley
