*In a recent episode of Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s “Dinner’s on Me,” podcast, Iggy Azalea discussed her role as the sole parent to her son Onyx.
The Australia-born artist, who welcomed Onyx with fellow rapper Playboi Carti in June 2020, revealed that she is not involved in a co-parenting arrangement. Iggy confirmed that she decided to raise Onyx alone after announcing her split from Carti four months after the child’s birth.
“I’m very much a single mother, I’m very much the only parent,” Azalea shared on the podcast, Complex reports.
“No disrespect, but I am not co-parenting, really. That’s just the reality of it. It’s 24/7,” she added.
Elsewhere in the interview, Azalea emphasized the significance of having a “village,” to support her lifestyle and motherhood journey, which she describes as including her mother, who was a single parent.

“It’s helped me so much in every which way of my life. That’s been really my biggest help. But with my mom, the way that she’s really like helped me so much, just by being there,” she said.
“Sometimes it can’t even be put into words, and I’m still like that as an adult, where I’m not even calling for advice but I just I’m calling to tell you, ‘Please get on a plane, because I don’t even need you to say anything I just need you to sit in the corner of the room I’m in,’ and somehow it helps,” Iggy added.
Fans have been critical of Iggy Azalea for choosing Playboi Carti as the father of her child, often labeling him a “deadbeat” due to his lack of involvement in their son’s life. Many have expressed their disappointment and frustration on social media, questioning Azalea’s decision and implying that Carti’s absence reflects poorly on her judgment as a partner.
One X/Twitter user wrote, “She let a gay vampire impregnate her and thought he’d make a good father.”
