*A Holly Springs mother of three is recovering in a Memphis hospital after being attacked by a pack of dogs while walking on Highway 178 last Tuesday morning.
According to WREG, LaKesha Newsom, 35, sustained severe injuries and is currently in the intensive care unit at Regional One Health, where she has undergone multiple surgeries. Her family described extensive wounds, including bites, deep cuts on both arms, and injuries to her lower body. They also noted that Newsom has two black eyes, prompting questions about how those additional injuries occurred.
“She had to lie there for hours and hours before anybody helped her,” said her aunt, Jerlene Tyson. Family members say they are struggling to get answers from the Holly Springs Police Department and want accountability for those responsible.

Police confirmed there were no witnesses at the scene, but have since interviewed an individual believed to be the dogs’ potential owner. The family claims there is conflicting information about the animals, with some reports suggesting they were seized while others indicate the dogs have not been picked up.
“They are hiding information. They said the dogs were seized,” her aunt said. “I’m getting information from other police officers that these dogs haven’t even been picked up.”
Newsom’s relatives emphasized the severity of her condition, saying she faces the possibility of losing multiple limbs due to the extent of her injuries. “Overall, I want a full investigation. I want the truth. I want justice,” said her mother, Rosie Young. “This could happen to anyone, but overall, what is hidden is going to reveal itself.”
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Holly Springs Police Department Investigations Division at 662-649-6228. Newsom’s family continues to call for justice and hopes that authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to determine who is responsible for the attack.
