*Kamala Harris is set to make her first major public remarks since leaving office, headlining the Emerge gala Wednesday night with sharp critiques of President Donald Trump.
According to a source familiar with her plans, the former vice president will use her keynote address to denounce Trump’s economic agenda and efforts to reshape the federal government, The Hill reports. The gala celebrates Emerge’s 20th anniversary, recognizing two decades of training and supporting Democratic women to seek elected office. In her return to the political stage, Harris will also commend the organization for its work empowering female leaders across the country.
Beyond the gala, Harris has reemerged in recent months, hinting at a continuing political presence. “I’m not going anywhere,” she told attendees at a California summit for Black women earlier this month. She has also joined Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which is managing her public engagements and potential book ventures.
Harris has been floated as a likely contender in California’s 2026 gubernatorial race, with a formal decision expected by late summer. A February Emerson College/Inside California Politics/The Hill poll found she would lead the Democratic field, drawing support from nearly 60% of likely primary voters.
Harris was honored with the Chairman’s Award at the 56th NAACP Image Awards earlier this year. NAACP board chair Leon W. Russell praised her as “a force of change” with a steadfast commitment to justice and equality.
“It is with great honor that we present her with the Chairman’s Award,” he said, highlighting her impact on public service and social progress.
