*Vice President Kamala Harris is facing widespread mockery after resurfaced videos of her falsely claiming that 220 million Americans died from COVID-19 went viral.
The exaggerated statement, originally made during her 2020 campaign appearances, has reignited criticism on social media, with many poking fun at her gaffe and questioning her accuracy in discussing the pandemic’s impact.
“Does anyone recall when Harris claimed that 220 million Americans died from COVID in 2020,” one X user asked.
Two separate videos of the vice president surfaced on social media, where Harris claimed that 220 million Americans had died from COVID-19.
“We’re looking at over 220 million people who just over the last several months, died,” she said. “You know, it breaks your heart. Many people who without their loved ones, because of the nature of the virus, without somebody to be there with them in the hospital and hold their hand, in their last days on Earth, were by themselves. We’re looking at over 8 million people in our country who have contracted the virus with untold long-term impact. We’re looking at over 30 million people that because of the economic impact of this virus, have had to file for unemployment.”

An estimated 350 million people are living in the US, so according to Harris’ logic, more than half the population died from the coronavirus in 2020.
Per fact-checking website Snopes, “Looking at the statistics compiled by Our World in Data, we were able to verify that global deaths due to COVID-19 had reached 1.2 million on Oct 21, 2020, including 350,093 deaths in North America,” the outlet writes.
Social media users reacted with humor and disbelief, mocking Harris for her misleading COVID death claims. On X, one person wrote, “Even more insane is that there are people that actually believe her!”
Another person added, “Tbf Kamala probably believes this sh*t because her handlers told her to say this & she’s too dumb to know better.”
A third X use wrote, “Kamala Harris lied about Covid and the border, and she is lying when she says she will fix the economy.”
