“Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” a standalone prequel to the beloved “Outlander” series, follows the passionate love stories of Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), alongside Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine). Spanning the rugged Highlands of 18th-century Scotland and the intense battlefields of World War I, the series explores fated romances tested by clan conflicts and societal constraints.
Stepping into iconic roles, Slater shares, “Honestly, it’s so exciting. It’s such a privilege to play a character that means that much to that many people.” Roy, an “Outlander” fan himself, adds, “Having the OG cast, and we were both Outlander nerds… So, the first time I got to meet like Sam and Richard Rankin and Caitríona … it’s crazy.”
The series centers on the foundational love story of Ellen and Brian, ancestors to “Outlander’s” Jamie Fraser. Roy explains, “It’s a love story, and who doesn’t love to tell stories about love? … I want them to see these relationships and think about love, think about their relationships and, you know, spread a little love in the world.”
Clan politics and historical tensions shape the couples’ journeys. Slater notes, “She’s betrothed to someone else, which is going to enable an alliance to be formed between the clans, which was extremely important at the time.” She adds, “The fact that these two people who are from rival clans are choosing to be together is kind of like an act of rebellion, really, in itself.”
The cast includes Tony Curran as Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Séamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie, Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie, and Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan. Roy is excited for fans to explore origins: “I’m excited for the OG fans to see the origin stories of the characters that they love. My personal favorite is Murtagh.” Slater says, “I’m excited for fans to see Brian’s jacket. It’s so cool.”

Produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Matthew B. Roberts as showrunner and executive producers Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” welcomes newcomers and offers longtime fans fresh perspectives on beloved characters, blending passion, peril, and legacy.
The highly anticipated prequel premieres Friday, August 8, on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms, with new episodes available weekly on Fridays. The series will also air weekly on Fridays at 8:00 PM ET/PT in the U.S. and 9:00 PM ET/PT in Canada on STARZ.
