*“I started working with David, who wrote most of it,” said Soul/Jazz Geneva Renee about her new single “Your Tender Kiss” (Red Mile Music). “To sing it I had to think about a guy I had a crush on. He (David) asked me what are you thinking about.”
Renee took that crush experience and used it as an emotional push to deliver a stellar project. The “Your Tender Kiss” single was written by Geneva and Billboard chart-topping David P. Stevens and features saxophonist Marqueal Jorden (Brian Culbertson).
“David said we are working on a new album,” she continued. “I was so excited about how awesome it was.”
When I asked if the single was part of an album project, she said, “We just finished the song. You never know when it will be released.”
“I gave David a call and said I was in town…and available let’s do it. We did it overnight,” said the California native who is now Washington, DC-based when I asked “He (David) had the track…I recorded the vocals the same day. I had written a verse and David said let’s add a sax,” Geneva explained about the single.
Renee’ is also Dr. Geneva Renee – a pharmacist (Howard University). That professionalism is heard in her style and vocal presentation which has a bit of a classical feel. The “Your Tender Kiss” single is also accompanied by a music video.
“(Marqueal) He recorded his separately, but it sounds like we were all in the studio having fun,” she said excitedly.
Geneva debuted in 2012 with a project produced by Dinky Bingham (Patti LaBelle) titled “Beautiful Wonder. Dinky also produced her sophomore album “Brand New Day” in 2021.
