*Gabrielle Union is in talks to lead a new legal drama in development at HBO Max titled “Debbie.” She would also executive produce the series through her company, I’ll Have Another, if the project moves forward.
According to Deadline, the series follows Debbie Powell, a once-successful Atlanta attorney whose career unravels after a public scandal. After stepping away from high-profile legal work, she returns as a public defender and takes on cases involving clients with limited resources. Her new role forces her to revisit past decisions while navigating a different corner of the justice system.
“Debbie” is being developed by writers Bradley Bredeweg and Matthew Thomas, who also serve as executive producers. Jenny Frankfurt joins the producing team.

Union remains active across film and television projects. She recently appeared in “Forbidden Fruits” and the animated feature “Goat.” She is also set to appear next in “The Casket Girls.” If ordered to series, “Debbie” would mark Union’s return to a leading television role since the BET series “Being Mary Jane,” which ran from 2013 to 2019.
In related news, Union has teamed with actress Elizabeth Banks to lead Paze’s new national campaign. The brand promotes Paze as a secure, bank-backed payment option, pointing to higher trust in banks than tech firms or retailers.
Union and Banks bring confidence, humor, and relatability to the message. Watch the Instagram clip below.
