*The high-octane action thriller “G20” starring Academy Award winner Viola Davis drops on Amazon Prime Video tomorrow, Thursday, April 10. Last night the cast pulled up to an exclusive NYC screening by exciting fans with a sneak peek of the gripping film. Radio/TV personality Jazmyn Summers was there to capture the magic for EURweb.
Directed by Patricia Riggen, the film stars Viola Davis as U.S. President Danielle Sutton, who must save the world, protect her family and fellow world leaders when the G20 summit in Cape Town, South Africa, is attacked by terrorists.
Davis, who also produced the film, with her husband Julius Tennon expressed her enthusiasm for portraying such a dynamic character, stating, “This is Viola Davis as you’ve never seen her—heroically kicking tons of ass in a global thrill ride.”
“My husband and I started a production company… to create more complicated, multi-faceted roles for African-Americans, especially African-American females. I think it’s important,” she shared.
Anthony Anderson, known for his role in “Black-ish,” plays First Gentleman Derek Sutton, President Sutton’s husband. Davis specifically requested Anderson for the role due to their longstanding friendship.

Anderson reflected on their bond, noting, “We’ve always had a great relationship, in the same network, traveling in the same circles, having the same friends.”
During filming, Anderson encountered a mishap performing his own stunts, leading to a hospital visit.
“Me against two goons and a chair! Guess who didn’t win! Who needs a stuntman? Me that’s who! I’m not as young as I used to be,” he humorously recounted. Fortunately, medical evaluations revealed no serious injuries.
Davis also shared how meaningful it was to portray a strong Black female lead, drawing inspiration from Teresa Graves in “Get Christie Love!”
“When you see it, you can believe it,” the award-winning actress remarked. “When you see it, you can see yourself in it and there’s something about being the hero, being the president, being the savior, that is a tribute to Black families, to Black women, to Black people.”
Reflecting on her role, Davis emphasized the personal significance of playing President Sutton, particularly in relation to her real life daughter, Genesis.
“I loved being the hero to my teenage daughter with this new action movie.” Davis recounted how Genesis viewed her as a hero after watching the film, a moment that was deeply meaningful to her. She noted, “Especially during the teenage years when parental admiration can be fleeting, having my daughter see me in this light was incredibly special.”
Davis has consistently prioritized instilling confidence and self-worth in her daughter. She often tells Genesis: “Your heart and your head are the two most important things in your life.” Additionally, Davis advises her, “You are the love of your life, you and you alone.”
These affirmations reflect Davis’s commitment to empowering her daughter with a strong sense of self-worth and independence.

“G20” promises to deliver an action-packed narrative with a talented ensemble cast that includes as the Suttons’ brilliant and brave daughter Serena and Christopher Farrar as their son. The film will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting tomorrow (04-10-25).
