*Flau’jae Johnson, a junior at LSU, recently opened up about the end of her friendship with former teammate Angel Reese.
As PEOPLE reports, during a June 9 interview on The Breakfast Club, the 21-year-old basketball star confirmed the rift, stating, “We’re not friends.” However, she emphasized the lasting bond from their 2023 NCAA championship win together against Iowa’s Caitlin Clark. “That bond that we had, and that thing we did together, win the national championship, you can never take that away from us,” Johnson said.
The two appeared close during their time at LSU, but Johnson hinted at underlying tensions, mentioning “a lot of media” and “locker room stuff” as factors in their fallout.
“Sometimes, like, stuff happens, you wish it don’t happen but it do and you just gotta grow,” she added.
Speculation about their strained relationship first surfaced in November 2023, when fans noticed a public dispute between their mothers, Angel Webb Reese and Kia Brooks, on social media. According to Outkick, Webb criticized Johnson’s grammar, prompting Brooks to retort on Instagram, “You definitely know about grammar errors when your daughter got a 2.0-or-less grade point average. Stop being petty, fake and hateful, and take responsibility for you and your daughter’s actions.”

Reese addressed the drama on X, urging fans, “Please don’t believe everything you read.”
Despite the rift, Johnson remains supportive of Reese, now a standout with the Chicago Sky in the WNBA.
“I support her in everything she do,” Johnson said, adding that she defends Reese online against critics.
“I be on social media clowning the folks that be trying to talk down on her.”
