*The 2025 Volvo XC90 B6 AWD Ultra is giving smooth, big bodied, slightly understated elegant family car. It’s got some great modern features and convenient designs, including an easyish third row set up. Let’s get into it.
The Look: Clean is the word for the 2025 Volvo XC90 B6 Ultra. I must admit, this was my first time in a long time in a Volvo and my curiosity was piqued. Everything about the exterior is effortless elegance—from the signature Thor’s Hammer headlights to the sculpted lines and luxe satin chrome accents.
This little detail elevates the look and gives this vehicle a standout position among SUVs. This Scandinavian ride is giving big body comfort without the bulk. The Ultra trim adds extra sparkle with 21-inch alloy wheels
Inside, it’s giving minimalist comfort. My model offered three rows of cloth seating and big comfy seats that you can sink into. A fun feature was the seat extension for added comfort for those long legged folk. I loved the speaker design, with the cross hatch chrome as well.
Something I hadn’t seen before is the mesh only top for the panoramic sunroof. The mesh doesn’t completely block out the light. A fun element is the crystal-like gear shift. It’s the little sparkle on the inside!
The Drive: Under the hood is the B6 mild-hybrid powertrain delivering 295 horsepower, which gives drivers a powerful and smooth ride. The acceleration is surprisingly peppy for its size. Handling is balanced and composed— I definitely felt confident and in control on the road and not like wrestling a big SUV.

Volvo reps sent over an image on how to reset the infotainment system if any issues arise. The Tech: Here’s where the XC90 was testy. The Google-powered infotainment system, which was so great for those of us who are Google lovers. This bit of tech showed up on a vertical touchscreen and has voice controls, built-in Google Maps, and native apps. But everything needed for the vehicle’s set up and climate control were also housed here. This, I don’t tend to like because, well sometimes technology fails, making it difficult to access various controls. And that’s exactly what happened, unfortunately. The infotainment screen stopped working and there was no on-site way to reboot or fix it. So I thought. Volvo shared a quick way to reset (see the photo below).
During the test drive, the team that cares for the vehicle gave a call in to help the reset. Other than that, the tech and safety features were great.
I loved the Bowers & Wilkins sound system. With wireless phone charging, tons of USB-Cs, and back seat climate control, everyone rides in style and comfort.
Overall, the 2025 Volvo XC90 B6 AWD Ultra is a fun drive, comfortable and classy.
