*As Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama “Invasion” enters its third season, a new face joins the fight to save Earth: Erica Alexander
She steps into the role of Verna Marilyn, a character balancing deep personal grief with a rapidly evolving leadership role. Alexander revealed that her connection to the project began with producer Simon Kinberg.
“Simon Kinberg drew me to this assignment, and he’s the tractor beam, like the Death Star,” she said. “If he comes calling, you get pulled in, happily though. I was invited to play this role, and he explained who she was, Verna Marilyn, and some of the things she would be tackling. I did my own research to find out what he had already built, and with the people he had built it with. I’m glad I said yes. I’m glad he came calling.”
Season three begins two years after humanity’s victory over the alien invaders, a period of fragile peace and recovery. That calm is abruptly broken when a deadlier, more advanced alien species appears, reigniting the fight for Earth’s survival.

“Earth has faced the alien threat, and they defeated them. So they thought there’s been two years of peace, and that’s where the story picks up at the beginning of season three,” Alexander explained. “The problem is that the aliens are not done… there’s another apex alien that has come to finish the job.”
Verna Marilyn’s journey is deeply personal. While mourning the loss of her sister and raising her nephew, she must step into a position of authority during a global crisis. “My character is a person who has two sides of the coin,” Alexander said. “She is a person who’s in deep grief for the loss of her sister, and she’s now taking care of her nephew, but she’s also becoming someone else. She’s becoming a new type of person in a leadership role.”
Returning stars Golshifteh Farahani, Shioli Kutsuna, Shamier Anderson, India Brown, Shane Zaza, and Enver Gjokaj join Alexander for a season packed with tense alliances, fractured relationships, and a desperate mission to save the world. Stepping into a cast with years of shared history required a careful approach for Alexander. “It was fun to find my footing,” she said.
Alexander’s experience stepping into established productions helped her transition smoothly into the world of “Invasion.” However, the show’s heavy use of visual effects introduced a new challenge. “I’d never done the CGI and playing to characters or things that were not there, and that took a little getting used to,” she admitted.
The 10-episode third season of “Invasion” premiered on August 22, with new episodes dropping every Friday through October 24. As the alien threat intensifies and humanity nears the brink of destruction, season three raises the stakes while exploring the characters’ resilience like never before.
