*A jury has convicted the son of rapper DJ Quik on charges stemming from a deadly shooting that occurred more than three years ago in Downey, California.
According to The Downey Patriot, on Thursday, December 4, 31-year-old David Marvin Blake Jr. was found guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of 33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr.
The verdict also included a conviction for shooting from a motor vehicle, along with gun-use and great bodily injury enhancements that could result in a sentence of up to 40 years to life.
The case dates back to May 25, 2022, when a confrontation unfolded between Cardoza and another individual in the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue near the San Gabriel River, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Authorities said Blake Jr. was seated in a nearby vehicle during the altercation. Prosecutors reported that he opened fire on Cardoza before driving away from the scene.

Cardoza suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he died the same day, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
Investigators identified Blake Jr. as the suspected shooter soon after the incident, and he was arrested the following day in Porter Ranch.
Blake Jr., who was booked shortly after his arrest, now awaits sentencing as the legal proceedings move into their final phase. According to officials, he is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on February 6.
The conviction marks a significant development in a case that has drawn widespread attention due to Blake Jr.’s connection to the well-known West Coast rapper.
His father, DJ Quik, has built a decades-long career collaborating with artists such as Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Tupac, Chingy, R. Kelly, and Shaquille O’Neal. He is also known for the hit 1991 single “Tonite,” which reached the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100.
