*The Department of Homeland Security is providing migrants living in the U.S. illegally with a $3,000 stipend to voluntarily leave the country before year-end, The Hill reports.
Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the agency is tripling the previous incentive for those who register to self-deport through the CBP Home app. In addition to the cash payment, the program covers travel costs and forgives civil fines or penalties tied to visa overstays or other immigration violations.
“If you voluntarily want to go home now to your country, if you’re in this United States of America illegally, we will give you $3,000 through the holidays to send you home. We’ll buy you a ticket, give you $3,000 to go home, and that includes people that have not been detained, maybe have interacted with us, are detained and don’t have criminal charges against them,” Noem said in an interview on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends.”
The DHS website states, “Those illegal aliens who don’t take advantage of this special offer today have only one alternative: They will be arrested, deported, and they will never be able to return to the United States.”

The program, which first launched in May with a $1,000 stipend, “lets eligible aliens return home as regular travelers—without arrest, detention, or restraints. It’s a safe, orderly alternative that provides assistance and flexibility, not fear,” per the app.
The app “allows illegal aliens to plan their return, including having an opportunity to depart in a timely manner – allowing illegal aliens to wrap up work, school, and personal matters and organize their return in an orderly and lawful way.”
According to Department of Homeland Security figures, processing a single migrant through arrest, detention, and deportation costs approximately $17,121. The department increased the payment threefold to make voluntary exit more appealing to eligible individuals, hoping to facilitate organized departures before year-end while reducing enforcement expenses.
