*Federal prosecutors have charged a Michigan district judge and three co-defendants, alleging they abused positions of trust to steal money from vulnerable adults.
CBS reports that Judge Andrea Bradley-Baskin, who serves on Michigan’s 36th District Court, is accused of participating in a scheme that siphoned funds from incapacitated individuals under court protection. Her father, Avery Bradley, along with Detroit residents Nancy Williams and Dwight Rashad, are also charged. Prosecutors say the group stole approximately $273,000 from people unable to protect themselves.
According to the indictment, the defendants held positions that gave them direct access to protected individuals and their finances. Williams operated Guardian and Associates, a company appointed by the probate court to manage the affairs of incapacitated people in more than 1,000 cases. Bradley and Bradley-Baskin ran a law firm under the same name, prosecutors said.

Federal authorities allege Bradley-Baskin used her position for personal financial gain. The indictment claims she directed $70,000 belonging to a protected individual toward purchasing a partial ownership stake in a bar. Prosecutors also say she secured a vehicle through a 24-month lease paid for with money taken from an estate she was responsible for overseeing.
The allegations describe coordinated financial misconduct among the co-defendants. Prosecutors contend Bradley, Rashad, and Williams worked together to obtain $203,000 in settlement funds that belonged to a ward. Williams is also accused of generating false housing expenses by paying Rashad for accommodations that certain protected individuals never lived in.
The charges include conspiracy, fraud, and money laundering. Bradley faces an additional fraud count, while Bradley-Baskin and two co-defendants are accused of laundering stolen funds. Bradley-Baskin is further alleged to have provided false information to federal investigators.
Court officials have temporarily reassigned Bradley-Baskin’s caseload while the case proceeds. U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon condemned Bradley-Baskin’s actions in a statement, saying, “We respect the authority that covers a black robe. This state judge and her cronies allegedly abused that high honor for personal gain by preying on the needy protected by the court. This would be a grievous abuse of our public trust.”
