Cole took to Instagram on Thursday to update fans, revealing he had been hospitalized while overseas, just days before he was set to headline the African Laugh Festival. Though Cole didn’t disclose the specific cause of his hospitalization, he expressed deep gratitude to those who supported him through the ordeal.
“Finally on the road to recovery,” he wrote. “God is a great God. I praise him and thank him for his love, grace and mercy.”
The actor went on to thank the medical professionals at Christiaan Barnard Hospital in South Africa, as well as his doctor back in the United States.
“I want to thank all the doctors, nurses (sisters) and staff here in South Africa at Christiaan Barnard hospital and my doctor in the states, THANK YOU,” he added.

Cole also gave a special shout-out to BET and the “Average Joe” cast and crew for pausing production during his recovery.
“I also want to thank my network BET, cast and crew on Average Joe for delaying production and patiently waiting and supporting me. Means the world to me,” he said.
While Cole had to bow out of his performance at the African Laugh Festival, he promised to make it up to fans next year.
“Sorry to the African Laugh Festival I was scheduled to headline, thanks for your understanding and support (I’ll make it next year),” he continued.
In closing, he thanked fans and friends for their patience and understanding. “If I cannot respond to messages right now, I just want to rest and get better to finish up the show,” he noted. “But thank u tremendously.”
Cole is expected to return to work once fully recovered.
