*The Colorado Buffaloes had a special guest speaker at their spring practice on Wednesday—Hollywood legend Denzel Washington.
Washington delivered an uplifting speech to the team as they gear up for the new season. ESPN reports that he kicked off with a powerful metaphor about perseverance.
“When you pray for rain, you got to deal with the mud too,” he said in the X/Twitter clip below. “But eventually, good things grow out of that mud.”
The Oscar-winning actor also asked the Buffaloes to invite him to the national championship game when they make it there.
“I’m going to say this now, if y’all don’t send me a ticket to the national championship when you get there, then don’t ever go to none of my movies ever again,” he said. “I don’t want to know you. Because I know you [are] going to be there.

“Now you remember that Denzel Washington said it: ‘You are going to the national championship.'”
Washington noted that even if the team never plays in the College Football Playoff final, they’ll be “going to the national championship in life anyway.”
Washington was one of 19 individuals awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the nation’s highest civilian honor—by former President Joe Biden on January 4. The award recognizes outstanding contributions across various fields.
Other honorees included former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, philanthropist George Soros, rock star Bono, actor Michael J. Fox, chef José Andrés, and science educator Bill Nye. Sports icons Lionel Messi and Magic Johnson were also among the recipients, though Messi was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts.
