*A Texas police officer was left blind after being shot in the face while responding to a targeted attack that resulted in the death of a fellow officer.
According to the New York Post, Dallas police Sr. Cpl. Karissa David was injured on August 29 when Corey Cobb-Bey, 30, opened fire at the For Oak Cliff Community Campus. David arrived at the scene after Officer Darron Burks was shot while sitting in his car. Another responding officer, Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer encountered gunfire upon arrival. Cobb-Bey shot Farmer in the leg before approaching David’s vehicle and firing at her as she exited.
David returned fire but she was critically injured. Burks died at the hospital, while David and Farmer were treated for their wounds. David was discharged on September 19 but is expected to undergo months of outpatient care.
“She is currently blind in both eyes and we ask for continued prayers for a miracle in that regards,” David’s family shared in a GoFundMe page.

The family’s fundraiser has so far received over $111,000, and the money would be used for “transportation to the hospitals and care facilities for the long term, lodging nearby when necessary, flights for family and friends for the upcoming weeks of care to support Karissa and her family. Additional needs may include pet care, food delivery, household help, etc., modifications to their house and additional therapies,” the campaign states.
“There are AI glasses, seeing-eye dogs, screen readers, smart appliances and tons of other gadgets that will enhance her life moving forward,” the family said.
The Post reports that Cobb-Bey was fatally shot by police in Lewisville, 25 miles from where he targeted the officers. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds after exiting his vehicle and aimimg a shotgun at pursuing officers. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our officers were targeted by nothing more than the uniforms that they wear and for the brave and honorable job that they do,” Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said. “I want to be clear here, the word ambush has been thrown around in the last 24 hours. That is not what happened here. Officer Burks was executed.”
