*Cree Summer is offering a refreshingly different perspective on menopause, one that challenges the common associations of hot flashes, mood swings, and restless nights. For the 56-year-old actress and singer, this stage of life has actually enhanced her sex life.
Speaking on the “ReLiving Single Podcast” with hosts Erika Alexander and Kim Coles, Summer, best known for her work on “A Different World” and a prolific voice-acting career, admitted that intimacy now feels more genuine than it ever did before. “I’m having better sex now than I ever had in my life,” she said, explaining that in her younger years, sex often felt “performative.”
“I think I enjoyed sex when I was younger, but it was performative many times,” she shared, per Ice Cream Convos. “Something had to get me loose or set me free. At this age, everything is where it is. It doesn’t look like it used to, but it feels better because I don’t have the ability to put on a performance.”

Summer explained that menopause unexpectedly influenced this change. As her body no longer functioned in familiar ways, she let go of the need to “pose” or “pretend.”
Erika Alexander summed it up with a metaphor: “The rose is at its best bloom and that’s when we’re the most shy. And then when it starts to sort of devolve or fall apart, that’s when we’re open.” Summer agreed, noting she’s now less reserved and excited to explore new possibilities.
