*Courtney B. Vance received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California, on December 16, marking a major career milestone. He was joined by his wife, Angela Bassett, and their twins, Bronwyn and Slater, who played a central role in the ceremony.
In his tribute speech, Slater offered insight into his father’s values and approach to life. “First and foremost, Courtney B Vance is emphatically the most altruistic public servant I have ever encountered,” he said, per BCK Online. “I have never seen someone cherish people like my father.” He also shared guidance his father once gave him, recalling, “You have to be like water, son, permeable to everything and everyone before you, but not so fluid that you forget that when it’s time to take solid form, you have it in your capacity.”
Bronwyn followed with a statement that reflected the bond with her father. She shared, “No matter how far away his work took him… my dad called me every single night, and every night he prayed with me.”

She also spoke about his example both at home and in love. “My dad is the greatest man I know because he lives with love. He taught me to put others first, even when it’s inconvenient, to do things not for recognition, but because you care.”
Bassett celebrated her husband’s artistic legacy, saying, “From Cory in Fences, and Hap in Lucky Guy on Broadway, to Hamburger Hill in Hunt for Red October, Uncle George in Lovecraft Country, C.O. Franklin in Genius Aretha, and yes, since this is the most wonderful time of the year, Reverend Biggs in The Preacher’s Wife. Courtney has built a body of work that endures.” She added, “Today’s honor is deeply deserved… I am endlessly proud of you.”
