*Ciara and Russell Wilson have solidified their family unit by legally adding “Wilson” to the name of Ciara’s eldest son, Future Zahir Wilburn, whom she shares with rapper Future.
According to sources, Ciara, who has full custody of her 11-year-old son, legally added ‘Wilson’ to his name a few years ago while retaining Wilburn as part of his full legal name, TMZ reports. The couple, married for nine years, was recently spotted enjoying the US Open with their children, sparking fan speculation about the name update after Russell’s Instagram caption referred to their son as “Future Wilson.”
The Wilsons tied the knot in July 2016, and they are raising four children: Future Zahir, daughters Sienna Princess and Amora Princess, and son Win Harrison. “I feel like, if I could look back in a crystal ball when I was a little girl and I looked at the idea of my family and what it would be for me, it’s exactly this,” Ciara shared with GQ.
Russell has embraced his role as a stepfather with deep conviction. During an interview on the I Am Athlete podcast, he recalled meeting nine-month-old Future Zahir: “When I walked in the room and I saw, you know, little Future — he’s nine months at the time or whatever — he crawls in my lap and it was like, you know, this is going to be my responsibility.”

Wilson added, “I remember leaving that night and God said, saying to me, ‘Raising this child it’s going to be your responsibility.’ I prayed to God, asking ‘Are you sure this is what you want me to do?’ He said, ‘Son, this is for you.’”
Wilson views his role as a stepfather as a divine calling, comparing it to Joseph, the stepfather of Jesus. “Even Jesus himself, like Joseph, he was a stepdad,” the NFL star noted. “I was like, ‘Ok.’ He wasn’t biologically his. So ok God, you’re going to give me this opportunity to love the way that you were loved, the love that you want us to love.”
Raising four children keeps the couple busy, with Ciara describing it as “non-stop entertainment” in an interview with PEOPLE. Wilson shared a heartfelt sentiment with GQ: “Every day I come home from work and it’s late at night, it’s after film and practice and all that, and me and Ciara are together, and we just smile from ear-to-ear in the kitchen because we realize that our family is a beautiful blended family but it’s also, you know, our family. It’s us.”
