*Fans are raving about the new thriller “Blink Twice,” starring Channing Tatum and directed by Zoe Kravitz. In my opinion, this has been the best film of 2024.
“Blink Twice” follows Frida a waitress, played by Naomi Ackie, with strong ambitions for a greater life. While working at a gala for well-known billionaire Slater King she sees this moment as an opportunity to meet King. As she and her best friend Jess try to blend in at the gala Frida decides blending in is not the way to be seen. Jess tries to discourage her but Frida is determined to meet Slater King.
That determination pays off as King notices her and begins to take a liking to Frida. After spending all night together King invites Frida and Jess to his private island. A trip to a private island via a private jet. For someone who is intrigued by creating a lifestyle that provides these luxuries, how could she say no?
Frida and Jess accompany King along with his friends and their dates to what seems like paradise. But things are not always as they seem. (Spoiler ahead.) Jess begins to question their time on the island. She is haunted by this feeling that something is off. Frida brushes her off but after Jess is bitten by a poisonous snake all things become clear. Mysterious Jess disappears after her revelation.

This island is only a paradise for the men. Once night falls they have their way with all of the women. When day hits. The women no longer remember the treacherous evening. Unbeknownst to the woman Slater King has discovered how to create selective memory loss in people. He gets to live out his life and wildest fantasies with no consequences. Surrounded by men who benefit from King’s wealth and power. Who will stop him?
As this film takes this dark turn I wondered what it was like on set for the actors. I sat down with Alia Shawkat, who plays Jess, Christian Slater, and Simon Rex, who play friends of Slater King. They shared with me how they were able to build trust with one another on the set of this film. “Luckily by the time we got to shooting some of the content of this film which is a lot heavier. We had been shooting for a couple of weeks and got to know each other pretty well and formed some trust. Because it required that,” said Simon Rex.
If you have yet to see “Blink Twice.” The beginning of the third is a bit disturbing. However, in the final moments of the third act that disturbance turns into excitement as you watch Frida gain retribution and take over as King!
