*Brittany Renner has confirmed the end of her brief marriage to rapper Kevin Gates, revealing they officially divorced just 52 days after tying the knot.
The “Basketball Wives” star made the announcement during an appearance on Los Angeles radio station REAL 92.3 LA, saying, “We got married April 6 and divorced May 28.”
Renner, 33, opened up about the reasoning, referencing Islamic marital customs. “There is a 90 day waiting period in Islam, where you have 90 days to see if you’re pregnant because then he would be responsible. But also in those 90 days, it’s for recommendation because the law wants you to stay married. And during those 90 days, you are not to entertain anybody romantically.”
She added, “So, what I will say is Islam has made my life easier.” Viewing the process as a time for clarity and personal growth, Renner noted, “Honestly, I don’t think anybody gets married to not stay married. So this is a nice 90 day reset, just focusing on myself.”
Despite the quick split, Renner expressed peace with how things unfolded, stating she followed her heart and feels no shame.

Renner, who shares a 4-year-old son with NBA player P.J. Washington, emphasized her commitment to the relationship while it lasted. “A lot of people, their issue is, even just in dating, in marriage, it’s people just don’t give it their all,” she said. “They don’t just go for it. But I feel like when you do, you’re at peace with whatever happens because I gave 100 percent.”
She added, “I don’t feel like it’s a sucky situation because what is meant to be is always going to be.”
The reality star previously expressed excitement about her relationship with Gates during an interview with PEOPLE at the “Basketball Wives” Season 12 premiere. “All I can say is, is that I’m with the person that I quite literally dreamed of,” she shared while appearing alongside the controversial artist.
“And to be able to just wake up next to him and spend time with him, even to have him here behind me, it’s like so surreal,” she continued. “He’s just the most beautiful person inside and out that I’ve ever met,” she continued.
