*A group of congregants at Beulahland Missionary Baptist Church in Gardena, CA (near Los Angeles) is calling for what they describe as “immediate accountability and transparency” from Pastor Lorenz A. Roseman following allegations that have sparked internal division within the church community.
Several members claim that Pastor Roseman was recently arrested in connection with an alleged physical altercation involving longtime church elder Elise Kilgore McTaw, a senior member of the congregation. However, as of publication, no publicly accessible booking record or formal court filing confirming an arrest could be independently verified through Los Angeles County online databases.
Representatives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have not issued a public statement regarding the matter, and the church has not released an official response outlining its position.
Community activist Najee Ali has publicly expressed support for congregants seeking leadership change. Church members and community advocates held a public press conference and protest to call for leadership accountability Sunday morning (03-01-26) at 11am in front of the church.
“The pulpit is sacred ground. It is not a platform for alleged abusers or deception,” said Dr. Ta-Taneisha Thames during remarks supporting concerned church members.
She added: “If you can allegedly assault a senior female elder of your own church and then walk back into that sanctuary and preach as if nothing happened, that is beyond hypocrisy — that is moral bankruptcy.”

“The congregation has been betrayed. Leadership requires integrity, truth, and accountability. Pastor Roseman must resign immediately. But instead, we have Deacon Weldon Davis and a few Board trustees ignoring the abusive behavior of Pastor Roseman. The members deserve a shepherd, not a scandal,” Ali noted in the release.
Church members have also raised separate concerns regarding Pastor Roseman’s academic credentials. Some congregants allege that his résumé references a doctorate degree and claim that inquiries to the listed institution indicated the degree may have been honorary rather than earned. Those claims have not been independently verified, and no official documentation has been publicly released clarifying the matter.
Attempts to reach Pastor Roseman for comment were not immediately returned prior to publication. It remains unclear whether church leadership plans to address the allegations formally during upcoming services or through an internal review process.
