*Bethune-Cookman University Interim President Dr. Lawrence Drake, II, is speaking out about the Ed Reed drama, which has sparked student protests on campus.
Reed will no longer serve as head coach of the school’s football program after going on a wild video rant against BCU over its abysmal campus conditions. Students are currently holding demonstrations about unsafe living conditions on campus.
Reed was hired late last year to revamp the school’s football program as its 16th head coach. The previous coach, Terry Sims, was fired in late November. Reed, a Super Bowl champion and nine-time Pro Bowl star, hit up social media on Jan. 15 to complain about having to clean up the trash on football grounds upon his arrival to start his new position.
Reed also noted that once he arrived at Bethune-Cookman University, his office wasn’t set up and ready for his takeover, The Jasmine Brand reports.
Reed announced his resignation from the HBCU on Jan. 21 after 25 days. He later apologized for the damaging video rant that he publicly shared in which he slammed the university.

Bethune-Cookman said in a newly released statement that it had “decided not to proceed with contract negotiations” with Reed.
In a tweet, Reed announced, “After weeks of negotiations I’ve been informed that the University won’t be ratifying my contract and won’t make good on the agreement we had in principle, which had provisions and resources best needed to support the student athletes.”

Dr. Drake appeared on Roland Martin’s news program this week and pointed to one video Ed posted “with the background music being booties, butts, boobs, and hoes. We have… 65% of our campus is female. We are trying to build young men to respect black women. People can say whatever they want to say, but we think you can do anything respectfully,” he said at the 21:48-minute mark of the YouTube clip below.
Later in the episode, Reed spoke with Roland and claimed the school’s administration is “lying on him.” Watch the moment via the Twitter clip below.
