*Drives to future destinations are looking safer and more enjoyable, with the arrival of Android Auto 14.0. As with all things new or upgraded, there comes a new way of doing things.
Citing 9to5Google, Digital Trends’ Bryan M. Wolfe reports that Google Gemini and Gemini Live have been tapped to replace Android Auto’s Google Assistant.
As one of the market’s most popular AI assistants, Gemini is known for helping users streamline tasks, study, refine work and writing emails, among its many talents, since its launch on mobile in early 2024.
For drivers, nothing has been officially confirmed. But that hasn’t stopped Wolfe from thinking of several ways it can be help. With an assist from Gemini Live.
Potential usage from Gemini Live include more natural and content-aware voice interactions for users. The program overall stands out, allowing human-like communication via a back-and-forth conversation. From impressive reasoning capabilities, Gemini Live is able to answer more complex questions.

“Consider how helpful it would be for Gemini Live to inform you about any traffic problems ahead that could impact your drive, including how much extra time those issues might add to your route,” Wolfe wondered. “While you can already access this information through Google Maps, in this case, the assistant would automatically provide updates about what’s happening on the ground.
With Gemini, the voice assistant has the potential to learn your driving preferences, habits, and past interactions to offer personalized recommendations and assistance,” he continued, noting the program’s potential to take a person morning ritual of getting coffee and using that to “”prompt you to navigate to your usual coffee shop when you enter the car.
Furthering possible ways of improving drivers’ time with their vehicle, Wolfe alluded to better management of an in-car entertainment system as well as assisting drivers’ planning of the workday with drafting task lists and scheduling appointment.
With a slew of possible uses ahead waiting in the wings, it is a matter of time before the public sees exactly what Google has in store for Gemini on Android Auto. No matter how quickly it comes, one thing is certain. It will be an interesting time to be behind the wheel.
