*There’s good news regarding Alijah Arenas. He is out of his coma and making strides in recovery just 24 hours after a terrifying crash. The USC basketball commit and son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was hospitalized after a Cybertruck accident in Los Angeles.
A family rep shared that Alijah’s progress is “remarkable and hopeful.” Although still intubated, he was able to open his eyes and write a note asking if others were hurt, showing his incredible spirit even amid serious injuries, according to TMZ Sports.
Good Samaritans Save Alijah Arenas From Burning Cybertruck
After the crash, which happened around 5 AM in the Winnetka neighborhood, neighbors rushed to help. One Good Samaritan recalled, “I remember hearing banging on the car window, but I couldn’t see anything because the smoke was so thick. That’s when I realized someone was inside. I tried to break the window, but it wouldn’t give. Then I saw one of the windows was cracked just enough, and we used everything we had to bend it and pull him out. The car was on fire. We just knew we had to get him out.”
Thanks to the bravery of local residents, Alijah was pulled from the burning Tesla Cybertruck and quickly taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, bumps, and bruises.

Crash Details: Speed Believed to Be Factor in Wreck
Law enforcement sources revealed that excess speed likely caused the crash. Alijah lost control of the Cybertruck, hit a fire hydrant, and then collided with a tree, completely mangling the front of the vehicle.
The crash took place in a 40 MPH residential zone. Alijah was reportedly driving alone in a vehicle owned by his father, Gilbert Arenas, when the accident happened.
