*Aldis Hodge is making sure no closed doors exist in his world. The actor, who is currently generating a buzz for his work in Prime Video’s “Cross,” is strategically building his empire brick by brick with acting playing only a small part in where he ultimately wants to be. In his eyes, there’s more than one way to navigate the road to success. It’s many.
“Acting is one avenue of what I choose to do with my life, but it doesn’t define everything,” Hodge told Essence magazine while touching on his evolution from acclaimed actor to multifaceted entrepreneur.
As noted by Rolling Out, the “Black Adam” star has investments in tech startups, real estate ventures, and production companies on his diverse plate of non-acting ventures. In his eyes, diversification is where it’s at with doors opening at every turn for new opportunities
“Success in today’s landscape requires diversification,” Hodge stated. “Every project, whether on screen or in business, should open doors to new opportunities.”

With his production company, those opportunities look to be among many coming Hodge’s ways. According to industry insiders, the company is focused on developing content that bridges entertainment and social impact.
“We’re looking for stories that challenge perspectives while delivering compelling entertainment,” Hodge stated during a recent industry panel.
Tech investments are another branch in Hodge’s growing tree.
As things expand, the entertainer is reportedly honing in on innovative startups addressing social issues. But don’t expect Hodge to latch on to any project. Like his acting roles, he is selective about anything he publicly puts his name on.
“Every venture should align with your values,” Hodge advised emerging entrepreneurs during a recent business conference.

Acting-wise, the entertainer has built up a catalog of quality work that ranges from “City on a Hill” as Assistant District Attorney DeCourcy Ward to playing legendary athlete/activist Jim Brown in “One Night in Miami” to displaying his rap skills as MC Ren in “Straight Outta Compton” to standing out with a starring role as criminal psychologist Alex Cross in “Cross.”
Based on James Patterson’s bestselling novels, the show is gearing up for the Nov 14 start of its second season amid more than 14 million views collected from the series trailer in just six days. It’s another reason why Hodges’ selective approach is working for him.
“When I choose projects, I look for stories that can create impact beyond entertainment,” he explained. “Cross represents that intersection of compelling narrative and cultural significance.”
With the highs that come with his success, Hodge is clear that his motivation for working so hard is very personal via his daughter.
“You can give me 15 Oscars right now and ask me what’s my proudest, happiest moment—it’s always going to be about my daughter,” he shared
