According to The Daily Mail, the rapper and entrepreneur has acquired roughly 20 properties as part of an estimated $50 million investment aimed at transforming the struggling downtown area. Jackson’s ambitious venture centers on establishing a G-Unit production studio for film, television, and entertainment projects. Last year, Mayor Tom Arceneaux honored the mogul with a key to the city, expressing optimism that the initiative—dubbed the 50 Cent Economic District—will create jobs and breathe new life into the former oil hub.
“In the short period of time, I’ve come to like the people of Shreveport differently,” Jackson said of his new partnership. “It feels like home for me, and eventually it’ll be home because I have some work to do.”
Jackson previously noted that setting up his 956,000 square feet studio “is not just a business decision; it’s a commitment to fostering talent, creating opportunities, and building a community that thrives through creativity and innovation. We see Shreveport as a beacon of inspiration and creativity.”
The city council approved a 30-year lease agreement between Stageworks Louisiana and G-Unit Films & Television Louisiana LLC on March 25, 2025, according to the Shreveport Times. Jackson’s company will handle all operations and maintenance of the facilities.
Jackson emphasized his commitment to hiring locally and leveraging his investment to attract additional state funding. “I have programs and plans for the facilities, so you’ll be able to look at the things that are happening throughout the year, and it’ll be actively used in a different way,” he said, per The Daily Mail.
“We are thrilled that G-Unit Studios will plant its roots in Shreveport,” Mayor Arceneaux told Billboard. “This city’s rich culture and talent provide the perfect backdrop for this endeavor. We are eager to collaborate with Mr. Jackson and G-Unit Film & Television to bring captivating movies and entertainment to Shreveport and Caddo Parish.”
